1st International Congress “Culture from a Multidisciplinary Perspective”
Description and objectives
The Multidisciplinary Research Group in Cultural Studies (GIMEC), created with the support of CEDCS (European Centre for the Dissemination of Social Sciences), invites everybody who is interested to present papers and/or posters for the 1st International Conference “Culture Under Multidisciplinary Perspective,” that will be held at the University of Alcalá (Spain), from the 16th to the 18th of March, 2017.
This Conference is aligned with the work of the “Culture Under Multidisciplinary Perspective” series, developed during the last four years. Our aims are to promote the studies about the complexity of culture and encourage the discussion between other disciplines.
Committee
GIMEC was created in September 2012, with the support of the CEDCS (European Centre for the Promotion of Social Sciences), with the aim of raising a broad multidisciplinary framework from where we can approach the concept of culture. In this way, we have managed to correlate seemingly unrelated disciplines, such as health biology, primatology, fine arts, art history, communication sciences, psychology, sociology, etc.
The research group set out to achieve two important aspects:
- a) It should have a multidisciplinary approach, with the aim of correlating diverse and seemingly unrelated disciplines.
- b) Its object of study should be broad enough to allow research in any aspect directly or indirectly related to culture. The GIMEC group could serve as an umbrella, covering the whole spectrum possible for research proposals.
The European Centre for the Promotion in Social Sciences (CEDCS), was created in 2005 from the archive ‘Archivo de la Frontera,’ created by professor Emilio Sola Ph.D. in 1999, from the Humanities Research Laboratory of the University of Alcalá. Professor Sola collaborated with scholars Laura Massimino, Luis Miguel del Cerro and José Miguel Escribano.
The Centre has been engaged in the field since the year 1999, when Archivo de la Frontera first started. It has launched numerous projects, as well as collaborations and agreements with universities and research centres from all over the world. It has also promoted the integration and structure of many research groups, such as The Complutense Association of Socioeconomic Research on Latin America, the Research Group ‘The Espionage of XVI-XXI centuries’, Educational Innovation experiences, Global Frontier Research Group: Colonial World and the Mediterranean, XVI-XXI centuries; Interpretation, Writing and Literacy Research Group, Interdisciplinary Seminar on Written Culture Studies; as well as our own Multidisciplinary Research Group in Cultural Studies (GIMEC).
